Pitt Crit Fact Sheet
On Saturday, May 7, 2011, 600 cyclists and thousands of spectators will descend upon the streets of Pittsburg for a distinctly American brand of bike racing. The "Criterium" race is not a meandering country-wide tour. It is a cycling's short-fast-adrenaline filled answer to NASCAR- a 45 minute circuit race around a ¾ mile course that makes fans as much a part of the action as the racers. This is not cycling you watch - its cycling you feel.
The "Pitt Crit" will put Pittsburg on the Map with pro cyclists from across the country and spectators from throughout the Bay Area. This is a high caliper cycling event on par with other races that bring top pros to California: the San Rafael Twilight Criterium, Sacramento Grand Prix, and the San Francisco Twilight Criterium. A sporting event of this magnitude has not been to East Contra Costa County in years, so as the out-of-town cyclists and spectators come into our fair city we want to REPRESENT and SHOW OUR PITTSBURG PRIDE!
THIS IS OUR CALL TO YOU: Come out in droves to cheer on the cyclists like they've never been cheered before! Bring your families to show your civic pride in our Community Bike Walk and Roll and Kids Ride! Take advantage of our FREE Fitness Classes and Kids Alley games and activities!  Enter the Bike Walk and Roll Challenge by bringing out the biggest group you can put together! Its all FREE, its all FUN, and its all happening right here in PITTSBURG!
On May 7th, the Bay Area spotlight will on us! PLEASE FORWARD THIS EMAIL and do your part to help spread the word about this exciting, FREE event to your families, friends, colleagues, and organizations. Lets make Pittsburg's Pride Shine! Attached are a flyer and factsheet for mass distribution and a website button/banner for those of you able to cross promote the event.

Eucalyptus Trees on Railroad Avenue

Eucalyptus Trees on Railroad Avenue
Posted Date: 4/18/2011

Beginning April 18th, diseased eucalyptus trees at the intersection of Railroad Avenue and Civic Avenue are being removed. This intersection has approximately fourteen eucalyptus trees, eight of which are diseased and being removed according to the private property owner. The trees are on private property, and not located within City Park.

The private property owner reports that the trees are being donated to science. An on-site scientist will be experimenting with a new machine that x-rays a tree to determine internal decay. Following the diseased trees removal, they will be examined to gauge the accuracy of the x-ray technology, with the hope that the technology will help save other trees in the future.

Pruning of the remaining trees, to help ensure their continued long life, will also take place.

For more information about City trees, please contact Public Works Supervisor Ramona Anderson at randerson@ci.pittsburg.ca.us

City of Pittsburg Celebrates New Green Technologies at Eco Fair

City of Pittsburg Celebrates New Green Technologies at Eco Fair
Posted Date: 4/18/2011

Electric Vehicles and Energy Upgrade California are here! The City of Pittsburg is pleased to announce new developments in green technologies in the city. The community is invited to join local organizations and speakers on Monday, April 25th from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM during a lunchtime eco-fair and formal dedication of the City's new electric vehicle charging stations. The event will feature speakers Mark Herbert, Chief of Staff for Assemblymember Susan Bonilla and County Supervisor Federal Glover, announcements from County representatives on the new Energy Upgrade California program, and demonstrations of electric vehicles using the new charging equipment.
The Eco Fair will be held under the City's iconic anchor in the Civic Center parking lot (65 Civic Avenue), between City Hall, the new LEED Green Building Certified Courthouse, and the Pittsburg Public Library. The new EV charging stations will allow visitors and employees of these facilities to charge their electric vehicles as they do business there. A network of charging stations available throughout the community has been identified by electric vehicle drivers as essential to supporting local residents and workers who seek to drive an electric vehicle and save thousands of dollars on gasoline.

The eco-fair will also feature local green organizations showcasing their programs and how they are contributing to real solution in our community and beyond. "It is a thrilling time for new green developments in Pittsburg," said Laura Wright, Administrative Office for the City. "There are new opportunities emerging in every aspect of life and the economy." The City is an active promoter of the new Energy Upgrade California program, which offers utility and government rebates to fund energy efficiency home upgrades and new green workforce opportunities to local contractors.

To learn more about the event, visit the City's website at www.ci.pittsburg.ca.us, or call 925-252-4129.
