Steeltown Coffee & Tea And E.J. Phair Brewing Company Brew Up Coffee Infused Stout.
Posted Date: 11/18/2011
Two Old Town Pittsburg have been brewing up their own creations for awhile now. For the past two years Steeltown Coffee & Tea has focused on quality coffee based beverages, and at E.J. Phair's own artisan micro-brewery, beer has been pouring from the taps at their restaurant since July. Now, these two local businesses have joined forces to create the first truly dark beer brewed at E.J. Phair's new brewery in Pittsburg's historic Old Town district.
"I gravitate toward dark beers, partly because their intense character reminds me of coffee", stated Adrian Badger, owner of Steeltown Coffee & Tea. "When J.J. and Becky asked me if I would be interested in supplying the coffee for a coffee-based stout they planned to brew, I immediately jumped at the chance." Badger added. "I chose our finest Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee for the beer and we french pressed 40 gallons of it by hand over two days. It was a huge undertaking for us but we wanted to make sure that the coffee we provided was absolutely the finest possible with complex flavors and sweet nuances." recalled Badger.
"We are really excited to work together with Adrian. We are huge fans of Steeltown Coffee and who better to get the best coffee from?", said J.J. Phair. "Steeltown Coffee & Tea is our neighbor in Old Town Pittsburg and we all support the revitalization and growth of the city of Pittsburg.
Working together is a natural extension of that support. Our new Stout is a smooth beer with a rich coffee flavor and sweet chocolate finish", Phair added.
The new beer will be named Steeltown Stout and will be released on Friday, November 25th.
Steeltown Stout will be available on tap at the E.J. Phair Alehouse in the former Liberty Hotel, at E.J. Phair's Concord restaurant, and at other fine Bay Area pubs.
