1. Purpose of this Bulletin
1.1 To help publicize important steps designed to make it a whole lot easier to safely dispose of unneeded medicines, throughout the common territory.
The more convenient the Rx-disposal-process can be made, the more able and willing the whole society will be to cooperate in neutralizing the dangers of improper disposal.
1.3 It is significant to note the logical consistency. Delta Diablo (waste disposal company) has an admirable track-record of social responsiveness. You may examine their record of "Community Engagement," here.
2. In a Nutshell
2.1 Embedded, below, is the press release (pdf) entitled: "DELTA DIABLO AND CITY OF PITTSBURG PARTNER WITH MEDICATION DISPOSAL PROJECT TO HELP PROTECT PUBLIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH."
2.2 You will find that the press release explains:
- That East Contra Costa County residents will soon have access to 3 additional drop-off sites.
- That a partnership between California, Delta Diablo, and Pittsburg is working toward optimizing availability of sites.
- That more partners need to step forward.
- That these measures will protect children, pets, and waterways [and make it impossible for meds to fall into other wrong hands -- and risk infliction of great harm]
- That since the "Don't Rush to Flush" program was launched, last year, its favorable impact is spreading. Momentum must not be lost.
- That Pittsburg City Council Member, Nancy Parent, is the Diablo Board Chair and is encouraging expansion with local partners.
- That the increase of disposal sites advances the National Drug Control Strategy, an urgent national priority.
- Finally, the primary partners in this campaign are introduced and their roles briefly described
3. Requested Action
3.1 You are urged (1) to keep this information in mind and (2) to seek-out opportunities to inform others. THE WORD NEEDS TO SPREAD OR IT WILL DIE -- and favorable change won't happen as well as it could/should/would.
3.2 Help accelerate this chain-reaction which is trying to clear a troubling concern off the social "to-do-list." It can be done if we all pull on the rope. And, when it IS done, we'll all be better off.
3.3 Help inform local businesses of this campaign and urge them to participate in making it easy for busy folks to do what's right. It's good business.
