Purpose

To help publicize an informal "meet-and-greet" -- on Wednesday, 22 October, 6 - 7:00 pm -- in Pittsburg -- for the Contra Costa County HIV/AIDS Consortium.

Directly below is the announcement flyer from Supervisor Glover's office.

Below that is a capture and link which describes the Consortium in their own words and lists links to further information of note.

You will see that this capture also includes a link to the mailing list.  That list is described, thusly:

"The Consortium is responsible for developing recommendations about how to spend Ryan White funds that come to Contra Costa County. Each year the Consortium discusses: programs and services; areas of greatest need and best methods to meet those needs for Contra Costa residents. The Contra Costa HIV/AIDS Consortium advocates and provides support for people impacted by HIV/AIDS, plans prevention and care services, develops recommendations and advises governments and community leaders.

The Consortium is responsible for developing recommendations about programs and services, areas of greatest need and the best methods to meet those needs for Contra Costa residents.

The Consortium is a network of people dedicated to improving the health and well-being of individuals and communities impacted by HIV/AIDS. Members reflect the diversity of Contra Costa and include representatives from agencies that provide HIV/AIDS prevention and care services, people living with HIV/AIDS, concerned community members and staff from Contra Costa Health Services.

The Consortium meets monthly and all meetings are open to the public.

EAST COUNTY Could Use a "CRUCIBLE," I think

HAPPY DISCOVERIES!

Another good reason to get to know 

that very special class of life-friend 

-- OUR NEIGHBORS!

1.  My life has become so much richer, just walking down the street, meeting neighbors and developing deeper friendships -- and making common cause.   And, on Facebook -- making new friendships with close and more distant neighbors -- is another golden, highly rewarding treat!  My frequent visits with all of them (electronically and face-to-face) is an enormous source of power, stimulation, wisdom, bright ideas, and just, plain ol' good times and fun!  I think they all help make me a better man than I might otherwise be -- and I thank them, dearly.

2.  One such happy result -- in this great chain-reaction, called life -- came from a dear friend and neighbor taking me on a ride to West Oakland, to 7th Street, across from the BART station -- to see the marvelous "THE CRUCIBLE."  They were putting on a spectacular wood-working show, at the time.

It's a facility that places the heavier industrial arts 

into the hands of us who would be unable to "scratch the itch*" in any other way.

3.  Artisans, Hobbyists*, and all who thirst to discover, develop, and/or release their creative impulses, in a material way, need to know about this place -- they have the equipment and willingness to teach all sorts of interesting and practical and whimsical things -- and provide to you the means to convert that knowledge into finished products.  For example:

• Black smithing and welding and metal working
• Glass working -- melting and blending, reshaping in all sorts of gorgeous, fascinating ways
• Wood working
• And much more.  Here, click their link and see for yourselves (this sends you to their "about" page, but from there, you might go on to their front door by clicking their "home" page)

5.  WISHFUL THINKING

West Contra Costa County is lucky, since they're fairly close to the facility -- but I'll bet that they and the rest of the County would be happy if something like that could be planted, say, in East County.

I imagine a lot of businesses, would-be businesses, or folks who just want another way to show what's inside -- would find great value in such a happy event as having our very own.  I can already think of large, open, industrial land, where they could fit in, nicely.  (At least now, more of us know that such as this is within 30 or so miles, inside our huge neighbor, Oakland)

The world needs and desperately wants all the beauty it can get!

And, there's so much of it, just waiting to be unlocked!

Purpose

Workload permitting, I hope to start accumulating, here, some of the fascinating things I'm discovering, every day, about this blessed territory and the people who adorn it -- BECAUSE WE ALL DESERVE AND NEED TO KNOW AND APPRECIATE THE GREAT THING LIFE HAS PLACED IN OUR HANDS AND SURROUNDED US WITH!

As you can see, I haven't gone much farther than introducing this blog-feature.  But, at least you know what's coming down the pike.  Stand by.  (Unless I figure out some better way to do this)

COUNTY YOUTH SUMMIT -- 3/16/13

Jeremy Newberry, an Antioch native and

former all-pro center, will speak at the
March 16 youth summit.

1.  Overview

In the included flyer, below, you will note that the free summit, which includes a light breakfast and lunch, is geared to youths ranging in age from sixth grade through high school. It takes place March 16 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Los Medanos College in Pittsburg.

In addition to Newberry's motivational talk, there will be several workshops on subjects that include 

• getting a job
• how to apply CPR in emergency situations
• avoiding gangs
• benefits of attending a community college and 
• starting a business.
