Cool California Challenge

AN INVITATION TO PITTSBURG RESIDENTS
to join
The Cool California Challenge!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
PURPOSE
Pittsburg is competing against 10 other California cities to see who can lower their carbon footprint the most. It is being run by UC Berkeley and www.coolcalifornia.org.
  • The 3 cities with the most points by the end of July get $10,000 in seed money to continue the competition.
  • If the City is named Coolest City, there is potential to receive a large prize in the end  that is hoped to be used for the community.
WE NEED YOUR HELP
1.  The competition works by forming groups or teams of 4-7 Pittsburg households who work together to motivate each other to start taking actions to lower their footprints.
  • The fun part comes in the form of points that are earned for having  a lower carbon footprint than what is average for your size household and by improving month to month, so you get points for stuff you are already doing as well as new actions.
  • Points will earn households prizes throughout the year.
  • Every 100 points that you earn puts your name in a raffle for a great prize or you can donate the cash equivalent of your prize to a charity of your choice.
  • You get 100 points for signing up and for each 10% change you make, so earning raffle tickets is very easy!
  • There are many ways to get more points along the way too.
2.  Sign-up for the competition will begin on April 1st
  • Right now the only criteria that they are checking for is home energy use (electricity and natural gas), but each month they will add more.
  • April is a recruitment month and then the competition really begins on May 1st.
  • You may sign-up at:
  •      The Website    or
  •      On Facebook
3.  I have attached flyers, below.  When you sign up and register, you should be able to see how the City is fairing against the other cities.  Please take a moment to check out the website!
Thank you!
