1. Purposes of this Bulletin
1.1 To make you aware of a wonderful, Pittsburg, CA small business, based on an ingenious, smartly-executed marketing concept -- which I very recently chanced to discover, "The Word of Vision Company."
[I seek no compensation for any of my postings. This is me, speaking from the heart -- always toward the common good. A business school might call part of this the beginnings of a case-study]
There's a lot more to their fine website than first meets the eye, so I thought I would point out a few things, here -- which you should know -- and which are not obvious from a quick glance.
In a nutshell, my ulterior motive (see the afterword, at bottom of this bulletin) is to offer, IMMEDIATELY, the opportunity to any small businesses, near or far, to make themselves better known to the public AND TO EACH OTHER, by entering some brief information (especially weblinks) in the comment space below. This is one place where your SINGLE entry will not been seen as SPAM -- but as a very welcomed information fragment!
This will do at least three things -- (1) add a public presence you wouldn't have had, before posting here; (2) help you find kindred spirits and those with whom you can exchange help (it often feels lonely out there -- and you can't think of everything); and (3) help me define and design a permanent Civic Mentor Subsystem to serve this function, perpetually.
I thank "Word of Vision" for inspiring and pushing this long-held intention of mine toward the top of the CM Development priority list. My focus continues to sharpen by the minute -- and I couldn't be more delighted!

My Ulterior Motives
LAYING THE GROUNDWORK
FOR A CIVIC MENTOR PROGRAM DESIGNED
TO HELP COMMUNITIES FOSTER AND PROSPER THE SMALL BUSINESSES WITHIN THEIR MIDST
A. FUNDAMENTAL: To point out that, in my view, civic mentoring must include a concerted effort -- to help communities -- to help those of its residents -- who bravely take the initiative -- to undertake new ventures -- which try to raise us up -- rather than hold us back -- either in pursuit of profit (so they can afford to do even more good) -- or non-profit (i.e. those who are positioned to not be so concerned with a direct, financial return, in fair exchange for what they had to give up in order to do their work -- the opportunity-costs -- depending more on voluntary donations, government interplay, etc).
A Problem: But, in many cases the information is scattered and often demands a lot of research to pull together and absorb and implement properly -- which one often has to seek out -- even having to figure out how to begin.
A Solution: I feel that the Civic Mentor concept can help gather these magnificent resources, eventually all of them, in one place -- a place already at an entrepreneurs fingertips (because a whole lot of other life-functions are to be served by the CM system -- so, the entrepreneur and many others will have many other reasons for being connected to it -- so, the information will, therefore, be there waiting to deliver -- exactly when life says its their turn to undertake a business venture). In other words, the CM concept seeks (among many other things) to deliver knowledge of these programs, instantly, into needful hands -- rather than busy entrepreneurs having to dig so hard, expending scarce resources, perhaps, unnecessarily.
I have already created a preliminary small-business CM blog, entitled: "The Small Business Place"
- which is primed and ready for further development -- and which may already be useful to many -- right now (ya never know).
- It's presently at position #4 on my priority list -- and considering that it's a list of hundreds, you can see the relative importance I place on this matter.
- Once this bulletin stabilizes (i.e. I slow down on making changes to it -- and I gauge initial public reaction), I'll place a copy of this bulletin on that CM Blog.
- A City-Wide Entrepreneurial Exposition -- an event where entrepreneurs might be able to easily introduce themselves and their ideas -- to each other and to their markets. Perhaps, in cooperation with brilliant initiatives, such as put on by the local united Chambers of Commerce (such as the fabulous annual "Technopalooza") -- and other cooperative entities.
