PUBLIC ARTIFACT AT PITTSBURG MARINA BEING REPLACED (#1)

AGING SMALL-BOAT HAS BEEN REMOVED
FROM APPROACH TO PITTSBURG MARINA

Last night, City Councilmember Ben Johnson told me that the historic old wooden boat, the "Red Salmon," pictured below, has been removed and destroyed.   It had long been situated near the entry to the Pittsburg Marina (at 3rd and Marina Blvd) -- but had finally deteriorated to the point where Mr. Johnson judged it to be a public hazard -- and so, City Manager Joe Sbranti saw to its recent removal and demolition.

Mr. Johnson said many areas of the vessel were worn so thin, you could poke a finger through the rotted wood. The heavy mast threatened to topple over and ruin someone's day.  But, he also said that another boat will take its place, at the point of welcome into that beautifully updated Pittsburg Marina.

On Ben Johnson's Facebook page, this morning, he added,:

" Soon to be replaced with a Boat that was in the Marina. We will do a new ceremony to re-dedicate this refurbished original Pittsburg Delta fishing boat. I want to thank Van DePiero and his staff for their efforts in the refurbishment of this boat and the Pittsburg Historical Society for allowing it to be shortly moved to its new resting place. I also want to thank the City Manager Joe Sbranti for insuring this happened on a timely basis. Ben Johnson, Pittsburg City Council Member, 2012-2016."
