CONTRA COSTA COUNTY SEEKS 
Health Exchange Call Center Agent 
JOB APPLICANTS



Contra Costa County is taking applications for 180 new health exchange call center agent positions at the recently approved Concord facility.
  • The agents will help eligible Californians enroll in health care insurance under the federal Affordable Care Act set to go into effect Jan. 1. 
  • The annual salary is $31,877 to $45,040 a year, depending on experience.
  • Applications will be taken until April 5.

The Job

To be located at 2500 Bates Ave. in Concord off Highway 4 and Port Chicago Highway, 

  • the center will take calls 59 hours a week, Monday through Saturday, 
  • except during open enrollment, when it will operate 72 hours a week.
Prospective agents must have 
  • a driver's license and 
  • a high school diploma or equivalency.
Agent I candidates must also have 
  • at least one year of office-support experience and working with the public; 
  • have one year of experience processing loan, benefit or social services documents; 
  • or have worked a year at a call center.
Agent II candidates, in addition to other requirements, 
  • must have six months experience, or the equivalent, of an Eligibility Worker I in Contra Costa County; 
  • or one year experience, or the equivalent, in public assistance eligibility determination in a county welfare department.

The schedule 
  • calls for the county to test staff, hardware and software starting July 1.
  • Enrollment starts Oct. 1.
  • "Covered California" is contracting with Contra Costa to operate the call center with county employees for at least three years.


The state is also opening call centers in Rancho Cordova and Fresno. 

Whether one or all call centers remain open beyond three years will depend on demand.
