AUGUST: FREE BART PASSES for Library Card Holders

The flier, at bottom, was forward to the PCJ, courtesy of our Library Commissioner, Greg Enholm.  For your convenience, here is an excerpt from the County Library site, concerning this FREE TRANSIT OPPORTUNITY:

 July 31, 2012 – Contra Costa County Library and 511 Contra Costa have partnered to provide free BART tickets to Contra Costa County Library cardholders with Discover & Go reservations during the month of August 2012. BART tickets will be mailed to cardholders' homes via standard 1st Class U.S. Postal Service within four business days of their request. The BART ticket offer is limited to one request per household and the offer is available while supplies last.

The free Discover & Go promotional BART tickets are available to library cardholders who have or make Discover & Go reservations for use in August to go to the following venues:

Asian Art Museum
Bedford Gallery
California Academy of Sciences
California Historical Society
California Shakespeare Theater
Cartoon Art Museum
Children's Creativity Museum
Contemporary Jewish Museum
Habitot Children's Museum

Discover & Go: Free Transit Passes in August

Contra Costa County Library cardholders with Discover & Go reservations during the month of August can get free BART tickets to many venues thanks to a partnership with the Library and 511 Contra Costa.

Keep Dreaming, Keep Reading

After you’ve completed your Summer Reading log and collected your prizes, join us online for more reading fun. Create an account, track the extra hours you read, and print your certificate at the end of the summer. There are no prizes for Keep Dreaming, Keep Reading, but you’ll be part of Contra Costa County Library’s effort to read a record number of hours in 2012!

Peanuts: On-The-Go! Crafts for Kids K-2

The Charles M. Schulz Museum is coming to the Library! Children in grades K-2 will draw Snoopy cartoons and make crafts while learning about the beloved artist and his characters. Space is limited, so please register for these free one hour events taking place at the El Sobrante and the Pinole community libraries. Welcome Home Veterans

Returning Veterans of America (RVA), a freshly founded Bay Area veterans group organized by recently returning combat veterans, is honored to announce a two-part series of Welcome Home events held on Saturday, August 11 and 25 at the Orinda Community Library from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
The day's activities are made possible through a unique partnership between RVA and Contra Costa County Library. Whole Foods Market Lafayette will sponsor the event with snacks, lunches, and health and wellness resource bags for the first 35 veterans. More details.

New Tutor Training for Project Second Chance

Looking for a meaningful volunteer project to begin this fall? Project Second Chance, the Library's Adult Literacy Program, is seeking volunteers to tutor adults with limited reading and writing skills.
