First authorized by Congress, under the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974, the Community Development Block Grant program is a federally funded award to entitlement cities and urban counties for housing and community development projects, on a local basis, including public services. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has the oversight and monitoring duties for the program and works with cities and urban counties on a local, regional and national level.
There are three (3) major objectives governing the CDBG Program.
