COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANTS (CDBG)

CDBG Poster 2007First authorized by Congress, under the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974, the Community Development Block Grant program is a federally funded award to entitlement cities and urban counties for housing and community development projects, on a local basis, including public services. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has the oversight and monitoring duties for the program and works with cities and urban counties on a local, regional and national level.


There are three (3) major objectives governing the CDBG Program.
They are: 
  • Meeting the needs of low-and moderate-income Populations. 
  • Elimination and prevention of slums and blight. 
  • Meeting other urgent housing and community Development needs.
The City of Pittsburg has been an entitlement community since 1995. The City receives an annual allocation of approximately $780,000 in federal funds for public service, housing activities public facilities and improvements, economic development and other activities serving the low to moderate-income residents.
