| Saturday is National Prescription Drug Take-Back DayMore than 7 million Americans abuse prescription medications. Prescription pharmaceuticals can be just as dangerous as illegal drugs when taken without a prescription or a doctor's supervision. The source of most abused medications is from the home medicine cabinet. Many people do not know what to do with unused, unwanted and expired prescription medications. Prescription drugs thrown in the trash or flushed down the toilet can contaminate the water supply. Proper disposal of unused drugs saves lives and protects the environment. On April 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and its community partners will hold a National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, operating collection sites at multiple locations throughout Contra Costa County where local residents can turn in their unused, unwanted and expired prescription medications. State Senator Mark DeSaulnier and County Supervisor Mary Piepho will visit the Antioch drop-off site and speak about local and statewide programs that help keep our communities safe and our water clean. You will also hear how prescription drug abuse has impacted the lives of those in your community and what you can do to help prevent abuse. Join them at: National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day 11:00 a.m. Antioch Police Station 300 L Street Antioch, CA 94509 The following cities are accepting unwanted medications for safe disposal from 10 am to 2 pm: Antioch Police Station 300 L Street Antioch, CA 94509 | Brentwood Police Department 9100 Brentwood Blvd Brentwood, CA 94513 | Concord Police Department 1350 Galindo St Concord, CA 94520 | Danville Police Department 510 La Gonda Way Danville, CA 94526 | El Cerrito Police Department 10940 San Pablo Ave El Cerrito, CA 94530 | Contra Costa Sheriff's Office 1980 Muir Rd Martinez, CA 94553 | Oakley Police Department 3231 Main St Oakley CA, 94561 | Pittsburg Police Department 65 Civic Ave Pittsburg, CA 94565 | Hilltop Mall: JC Penny's Lower Level Sponsored by the Richmond Police Department 2200 Hilltop Mall Road 110 D Richmond, CA 94804 | San Ramon Police Department 2401 Crow Canyon Rd San Ramon, CA 94583 | Walnut Creek Library Lobby Sponsored by the Walnut Creek Police Department 1666 North Main St Walnut Creek, CA 94596 |
