MAYA CINEMAS -- SPECIAL SOUND SYSTEMS

090712 -- This message was received, this date, from Maya Cinemas - Pittsburg 16, concerning the extraordinary sound system which they are introducing to us, in two of their auditoriums.  I hope you will find this as interesting, helpful, and inviting as I do.  Heard it, the other day.  IT WAS VERY PLEASING AND NOT THE LEAST BIT HARSH -- JUST "NATURAL" (BUT MORE SO) -- Editor

Two other blog articles are included in this City-Journal, with information pertaining to Pittsburg's great new entertainment resource:

Hi David,

The sound in auditoriums #1 and #2 have 28 surround speakers along the walls and ceiling. There is no [descriptive] literature due to the fact that it was designed by our President and COO [Chief Operating Officer].  He has an extraordinary imagination that he brings to the table in designing each and every theater.

The sound is powered by 20 amplifiers, when the usual set-up is around 5-8 amplifiers. The screens are also different since they are floating curved screens which allows a larger format and more picture from wall to wall.

In auditorium #1 we have a silver screen for a perfect 3D experience, it reflects more light than a typical white screen.  On that note, we also have a dual projector system in which there are two projectors working as one simultaneous unit.

We are the fifth such installation in the entire nation, (there are six set-up this way, nation-wide). It gives extreme clarity and more of a 3D effect then a typical HD version of 3D. Let's just say its ALMOST an unofficial IMAX.  It doesn't have the eye-popping 3D as IMAX does, but it certainly gives you what you pay for.

They (#1 and #2) are also the biggest auditoriums we have at the moment, until the second phase [WOW!]. They seat almost 300.

"Finding Nemo in 3D" is our Grand Opening 3D movie presentation.

Feel free to ask any more questions if I didn't cover enough, or if you would like more information regarding these auditoriums.

Thanks,
Joe Madrid
Projection Manager
